Special Agent Robert "Bob" Taubert
November 1, 2023
We here at Saber Group were saddened to hear of the passing of Robert "Bob" Taubert, a great man and true friend to many in our community. Bob had been battling illness for quite some time, but was always positive and optimistic whenever we spoke or corresponded.
I was privileged to be taught by Bob years ago, and then to spend time with him while working on his book, "Rattenkrieg!" He was a genuinely tough man, and like many genuinely tough folks I have gotten to know, he was always kind and considerate of those he worked with and among. He also very intentionally maintained a "student's mind set", always willing to consider new or alternative ways of accomplishing the mission, whatever that mission may be. This example of maintaining a check on your ego while pursuing excellence in your craft made a huge impression on me and many others, especially considering his background. Bob spent 12 years in the USMC, served two combat tours in Vietnam and rose to the rank of Major serving as a Company Commander. After his military service, Bob joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as a Special Agent. He spent 24 storied years with the FBI and had a remarkable career, being heavily involved in the creation of the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) and several other high-profile, notable units. Through it all he always credited his wonderful wife, Nancy, for the love and support she always provided him.
A true Officer and a Gentleman, Bob will be sorely missed, and always respected and admired for his many accomplishments and the way he conducted his well-lived life. His influence will no doubt endure. Sincere condolences to his family and many friends.

Captain Patrick McAdam
April 28, 2016
Pat enjoyed a life full of commitment and service to others. He was a loyal, honest, and unwavering friend to many throughout his too short 56 years. Pat and I were best of friends for more than 40 of those years. His loss is immeasurable to those who knew and loved him.
Pat began his law enforcement career as a patrolman with the Everett, MA Police Department in October of 1983. Over the following 32 years, he would rise through the ranks, being promoted to captain in March 2006. Pat's career was one of innovation and dedication to the citizens he served and the officers he served with. Pat was instrumental in the creation and implementation of numerous initiatives during his career, to include the forming and leading of the EPD Dive Team and Special Operations Unit.
He retired in January 2015 to his home in Marco Island, Florida, with his beautiful wife, Kathy.
Tragically, we lost Pat as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Jim Cirillo
July 12, 2007
All of us here at Saber Group mourn the tremendous loss of Jim Cirillo: heroic police officer, dedicated family man, distinguished trainer, author, mentor, and friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's family and many close friends.
Jim, 76, was a legendary member of the New York City Police Department. He died tragically as the result of an automobile accident on Thursday, July 12, 2007, in Brookfield, NY. Jim was a great man who worked tirelessly in the effort to provide valuable training and education to the members of the law enforcement community. While having much to boast about in a stellar career, Jim was never boastful. He was also neither shy nor hesitant to let you know what he believed, and why he believed it. And there was good reason for that: Jim's beliefs were born of hard won experience, experience he gained not only through years of focused work, study, and training, but also through his involvement in numerous close quarter gunfights as a police officer. I was fortunate to have had the extreme pleasure and honor to be able to work with Jim on several occasions. During those occasions, I watched Jim as he interacted with his students. He was a master instructor as well as a master tactician and shooter. Always quick to provide a word of encouragement or advice, to share a laugh or patiently answer a question, Jim was the consummate gentleman and teacher. The good he has done in his lifetime can never be accurately measured. But know that it was an enormous amount of good, half as much of which anyone could be proud to have produced. He will be sorely, sorely missed. |
Lieutenant Roger A. Ford
May 21, 2002
Lt. Roger A. Ford passed away on May 21, 2002, succumbing to cancer at age 54.
He didn't go easy. He was a ferocious fighter to the end, yet as always, he fought with dignity and class. During two tours of duty in Vietnam with his beloved United States Marine Corps, Roger, a wet-behind-the-ears teenager from Everett, Massachusetts, fought the Viet Cong and NVA with a courage and style that belied his young age and inexperience. Colonel Rex Applegate
July 14, 1998
Rex Applegate is known to many as an innovative American Army officer who worked for Wild Bill Donovan during World War II.
Applegate did indeed work for Donovan's Office of Strategic Services (OSS), training numerous covert operators for behind-the-lines missions in Axis-controlled areas. During his time with OSS, Applegate worked closely with another legendary trainer, British Captain William Fairbairn. Together, they designed a training program intended to equip raw recruits with the tools necessary to prevail in spontaneous close quarters engagements. (Read entire article) |
