THE POKER CHIP DRILL
This drill was reportedly used by American gunfighters of the old West to increase their drawing speed. This drill, when practiced professionally and safely, still provides tremendous benefits to the modern day pistoleer.

THE SABER CHALLENGE DRILL: Lesson Plan
​This lesson plan, though somewhat unconventional, has been implemented with great success during specialized training iterations, as well as during basic recruit firearms training programs. It has also been professionally evaluated by several seasoned firearms trainers, a behavioral psychologist, and an attorney. All have found it an efficient model that accomplishes several critical objectives as described in the text. ​

​A while back I received an invitation to submit a short story for possible inclusion in a new book to be edited by Ed Nowicki. I was intrigued by this as Ed is extremely well-regarded in the LE community. His untiring efforts to improve police training as well as promote a positive, realistic image of the members of the police profession to the public are both commendable and inspiring. The fact that all royalties from the sale of the book, American Blue, will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund was the last bit of motivation I needed to write a piece for submission. I am honored to be able to say that my submission, one of more than 170 received, was selected for inclusion in the book. I encourage everyone to buy a copy of American Blue, not only to read the 50 short stories detailing and illuminating real-life moments experienced by members "on the Job," but also because it is a great way to support the NLEOMF.

Mike Conti Comments: This video is really interesting, in sometimes horrifying ways! Watching the "Human Target Stands" demo is a hoot. To paraphrase Bill Jordan, "these gentlemen show great courage. Poor judgment, but courage!" It is also interesting to observe the combat training courses of fire. Thanks to Jim Crump for sending this link to me.
