THE POKER CHIP DRILL
This drill was reportedly used by American gunfighters of the old West to increase their drawing speed. This drill, when practiced professionally and safely, still provides tremendous benefits to the modern day pistoleer. (Text and photos excerpted from THE OFFICER'S GUIDE TO POLICE PISTOLCRAFT) THE SABER CHALLENGE DRILL: Lesson Plan This lesson plan, though somewhat unconventional, has been implemented with great success during specialized training iterations, as well as during basic recruit firearms training programs. It has also been professionally evaluated by several seasoned firearms trainers, a behavioral psychologist, and an attorney. All have found it an efficient model that accomplishes several critical objectives as described in the text. Text, photos, and video illustrate this efficient pistol stoppage clearing drill FIELD NOTES: The M95 Respirator American BlueA while back I received an invitation to submit a short story for possible inclusion in a new book to be edited by Ed Nowicki. I was intrigued by this as Ed is extremely well-regarded in the LE community. His untiring efforts to improve police training as well as promote a positive, realistic image of the members of the police profession to the public are both commendable and inspiring. The fact that all royalties from the sale of the book, American Blue, will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund was the last bit of motivation I needed to write a piece for submission. I am honored to be able to say that my submission, one of more than 170 received, was selected for inclusion in the book. I encourage everyone to buy a copy of American Blue, not only to read the 50 short stories detailing and illuminating real-life moments experienced by members "on the Job," but also because it is a great way to support the NLEOMF.
(Note: None of the authors received compensation for their submissions other than a complimentary copy of the book. All submissions were donated to support the cause. American Blue has been published by Varro Press.) |

Mass State Police Recruitment Video from 1956! LASD Pistol Team Exhibition, Historic, 1936, Color enhanced"Vintage early color footage of the LASD Pistol Team at Biscailuz Range during a skilled shooting exhibition over 75 years ago in 1936. Legendary Marksman and LASD Aero Bureau aviation pioneer Sgt. Sewell Griggers featured. Also includes documentary footage demonstrating how the BC shooting range was used and maintained." Mike Conti Comments: This video is really interesting, in sometimes horrifying ways! Watching the "Human Target Stands" demo is a hoot. To paraphrase Bill Jordan, "these gentlemen show great courage. Poor judgment, but courage!" It is also interesting to observe the combat training courses of fire. Thanks to Jim Crump for sending this link to me. I will be adding others from YouTube as well as clips from my own video library.
